Intro

Couples in Conflict

2

Our team has reviewed and thematically organized 15 relationship education courses. We discovered four major themes that are common among relationship programs: skills and abilities, self in the relationship, partner bonding, and relationship motivations.

One thing that is missing from these educational programs, that we are seeking to fill with Caring Systems, is interactional patterns. At the heart of relational therapy is systems theory. It is the life blood of all conceptualization in relational struggles. Systems theory may be implicitly part of the development of these programs, but not explicitly. We hope that as we share this meaningful theory as a tool you will unlock some of your own struggles.

We hope to give you an understanding of Systems Theory in a way that helps you to make choices that govern how you interact with your partner in a more caring way.

Your Team

5

All of us share a passion for relationship education and have had a hand in the research and development of this program. Dr. Nathan Hardy, the program director of Marriage and Family Therapy at Oklahoma State University leads these efforts. We want to thank the Mental Research Institute (MRI) for funding the development of this program. Each of us have have a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and actively see clients. We know the power that can come to couples that understand systems theory in their relationships. Dr. Hardy and Sarah have played a large role in the development of this curriculum. Jordan will be your instructor for this course as he helps simplify systems theory.  I, Ty Gregson, will be your facilitator through this course.
